New reports have surfaced today regarding HTC’s efforts to woo Google into choosing them as the next OEM for the next generation Nexus smartphone. The upcoming Nexus-branded super-device could very well run Android 5 a.k.a. Jelly Bean. Jeff Gordon, HTC’s Global Online Communications Manager, said that since Google hasn’t chosen its Nexus partner for Jellybean, all original equipment manufacturers, including HTC, are keeping their collective fingers crossed. But what are HTC’s chances of sealing the deal? That’s a good point to consider.
You can probably remember that HTC and Google have [...]
What a great way to make our day! We all love cutting-edge Android devices, particularly those that possess amazing specs. And today, we got just that!
Hitting the Mobile World Congress today is Fujitsu, the Japanese technology company that is currently the third largest IT services provider in the world. Fujitsu immediately caught our attention when it displayed a prototype smartphone running Android 4.0 ICS.Pocket-lint
But soon enough we realized that Android 4.0 is just the icing on the cake. We later found out that Fujitsu’s prototype is actually powered by a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor. The smartphone is just one of of the [...]
Qualcomm, the world-leading wireless telecommunications research and development company and the world’s largest fabless chip supplier, has introduced a newly improved version of the Snapdragron S4 chip as well as three new Gobi modem chipsets at the Mobile World Congress today in Barcelona, Spain. The newly improved Snapdragron S4 SoC, dubbed as the “Snapdragron S4 Pro”, takes the ordinary dual-core Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 chip used in the HTC One X/S and the Asus Padfone to a whole new different level. So what’s so interesting about the S4 Pro?
It was just a few days ago when Panasonic announced its intention to stage a major comeback in the mobile market with the introduction of the Eluga smartphone, a water-proof and dust-proof 4.3-inch smartphone that will be headed for Europe next month. Just to feed our passion for something new here at the Android Authority headquarters, we were really hoping to see the device in action at the MWC this week. Well, just like an answered prayer, the slender-looking Eluga was displayed today at the MWC.
Judging from the hands-on, it appears that the [...]
Android is winning once again – big time. According to the “Father of Android”, Andy Rubin, Google is currently activating a staggering number of 850,000 Android devices daily. At this rate, the overall Android population should be somewhere around the 300 million mark including 12 million tablets. Overall, an annual growth of 250%. Wow!
In a meeting with reporters just today, Andy Rubin clarified that the stats are indeed true and very reliable. According to Rubin, Google does not “chop things up” when Android users reset or sell their devices, which means that [...]
At long last, the much-awaited Padfone that has mesmerized us since it first previewed last year, is here. And we can’t tell you how excited we are to finally have this product has officially been made official at Mobile World Congress today.
The brains of the whole operation is powered by the Padfone itself, and features a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD screen. And, just as we had predicted, the smartphone is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 with an Adreno 225 GPU. It sports an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and an F2.2 “5-element” autofocusing lens. Sure, no quad core Tegra 3, [...]
An interesting patent filed by Google last year was recently revealed through a publication this month showing what appears to be a new touch gesture invention that could help users better interact with their touch devices. It’s actually an original search-based gesture that is meant to be used for future devices. The invention, dubbed as “Continuous Gestures”, will allow touch gestures to call and command search functions on every content found on the screen. If you think that the technology is familiar, you can actually find this relatively similar process in apps like the Dolphin Browser and Google [...]
Before Acer hits the stage for the MWC, it has officially announced the arrival of their flagship entry-level handset that, surprisingly, comes with stock Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Presenting the cool-sounding Acer Liquid Glow handset! It’s as simple as it gets. Acer dubs this smartphone as “the ultimate balance between style, performance, and affordability”.
The Liquid Glow is a 3.7-inch phone with an 800 x 400 display resolution. It is powered by 1 GHz single-core processor and additional features include a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash, [...]
Last year, Sony Mobile, formally known as Sony Ericsson, announced that they would be bringing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to all single-core Xperia smartphones released within the same year. The said update is scheduled to arrive sometime in March or April of this year. Thankfully, Sony isn’t planning to disappoint its fans. Sony has just launched a beta version of its ICS ROM for all unlocked Xperia handsets in 2011 including the Xperia Arc, Xperia S, Xperia V and the Xperia Ray. This of course means that the promised major update will be arriving very soon.
Asus is aware of the fact that they are trying to implement a paradigm shift in the realm of mobile technology. Unfortunately, change doesn’t happen overnight. That’s exactly the case with Asus. Perhaps you do remember the Asus Padfone, the half-tablet, half-smartphone that was first advertised last year. But it didn’t appeal much to us at first. After all, a phone that can be inserted into a tablet was unimaginable, and the thought of just didn’t make any sense.
What was certain though is the fact that it was something radical, cool and interesting, judging from the advert that Asus first revealed last year. But it took Asus to launch the [...]
