Earlier this week HTC issued a cease and desist order to Beautiful Widgets creators LevelUp Studio due to the self proclaimed similarities of LevelUp’s widgets to HTC’s Sense UI.  At first, it looked like HTC was just looking to protect the likeness of the well received custom UI overlay, but after some digging it has been unearthed that HTC seems to be preparing its own version of the Sense UI in widget form for anyone with an Android device. 3 test apps on the Android market were discovered by the folks at Phandroid that are directly linked to HTC and…

The Motorola Zeppelin has resurfaced with a couple of nice shots and an unconfirmed release date of, you guessed it, December 25th (China only).  Translated specs include an ARM Cortex A8 processor, a  3.7-inch multitouch screen capable of 720p HD support, HDMI output, Android 2.0, a 5-Megapixel camera with LED flash, a 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS, and Bluetooth 2.1.  The phone has a clean look with no physical keyboard and seems to be lacking a physical search button.  It also boasts support for both GSM and CDMA, and rumors state that this device could be the same as the FCC…

The details are sketchy at the moment, but the Samsung Saturn has been snapped by Mobile Review confirming earlier reports that this will be an Android device.  Rumored specs include an 800MHz CPU, 3.2-inch touchscreen display and it is said to run the Android 1.5 OS.  Early November reports stated that the phone would run “v2 Eclair” so we have conflicting reports on which version of Android this phone will actually run.  I’ve dug up the early November specs thanks to GSM Arena which is viewable, along with higher resolution photos of the Saturn, after the jump.  The device is…

The almighty Motorola DROID has come out on top in Time Magazine’s annual top 10 listing of best gadgets of the year.  Beating out devices such as the Nook and iPhone 3GS, amongst others, some would say that the DROID was a relative underdog in the contest.  Nobody can deny the fact that the first official phone to run Android 2.0 has made shock waves in the industry since it’s veiled discovery.  This phone, along with Verizon’s new “there’s a map for that” campaign have seemed to push AT&T back on its heels a bit in an effort to save…

The news just won’t stop from the search giant.  Google has recently announced “Favorite Places on Google” as part of an initiative to get even better local results when searching for local businesses, such as restaurants, hotels, clothing stores, and more.  100,000 of the most researched places in over 9,000 cities and towns across all 50 of the United States were sent official Google Favorite Place decals.  The decal contains a unique QR code scanable by many mobile devices, including those running Android.  Businesses are encouraged to place the decal in their store fronts so that patrons can scan and…

Google recently unveiled its newest creation, Google Visual Search, during a television special which aired on CNBC called “Inside the Mind of Google”.  Using an Android phone, the new technology will allow users to take a picture of anything, and Google will return search results and information based on that image.  Examples given include a piece of art in a Paris museum, a coffeehouse, and the Santa Monica Pier.  Internally called “Google Goggles”, it is an expanded idea from their facial recognition technology brought on by Google’s acquisition of Neven Vision.  Originally unsuccessful with study groups in August, Google is…

Could this be the newest member of Motorola’s stable of Android smartphones?  BGR has uncovered yet another new Motorola device, and has pictures to boot!  It looks somewhat like a keyboard-less, upgraded version of the DROID, and is said to sport an 800MHz processor, a 3.8-inch display, and an 8 megapixel camera with dual led flash.  Though if you look at the 2nd picture closely, found after the jump, it appears to say 5 instead of 8.  The phone also has a rounded shape that more closely resembles the curves of the iPhone.  It looks like Motorola is going all…

The folks at Zumo Blog have recently obtained more information about Dell’s Mini 3iX Android device and, shockingly, Dell is planning to omit the Android Market from the phone.  Instead, Director of retail for Dell Latin America, Scott Schillington, has confirmed that they are opting to allow for direct downloads from developers and integration of their own version of an application store.  The 3iX will be sold in Brazil before it launches in the U.S. so we should get to see the consumer reaction to Dell’s decision before U.S. customers take the plunge. This phone  passed the FCC about a…

Google has announced that Android, iPhone, and Pre users can now experience a new streamlined version of Google News on their phones’ browsers. New features include integrated personalization with your desktop preferences, easier video viewing, optimized format for pictures, and the ability to jump to a category much quicker. After playing around with it for a while, I don’t see much of an improvement over viewing Google News on my mobile iGoogle page. I prefer to jump via tabs, rather than having the entire news feed display and having to jump up and down the page to get to the…
