RIM PlayBook Compatible with Android Apps Soon

During last week’s CES 2012 event, Research In Motion (RIM) showcased a new device called the PlayBook OS 2.0. While many got excited for its upgraded and native email client, more people got interested in the fact that the version promised to run Android apps. RIM’s Vice President of Developer Relations and Ecosystem Development, Alec Saunders, has said that a few ‘number of thousands’ of Android apps shall be available once the PlayBook OS 2.0 becomes available.

Odeon Launches Own App for Moviegoers

For people who are fond of watching movies from Odeon cinemas, the establishment has recently launched its own app under the same name. Thanks to the app, users can easily make bookings and choose their straights with no fuss. Moreover, they can locate a nearby local cinema. Plus, Premiere Club members get to track their reward points.

While any other movie app can do that, Odeon has another feature to boot. Apart from making reservations and all that, the app also enables its users to watch trailers, read plot summaries, and even see star ratings. Sony SmartWatch Announced at CES 2012

Over at Sony’s booth in last week’s CES 2012, the company launched several new devices worthy of attention. Apart from the new Sony Xperia Ion, Xperia S, and a pair of Google TV devices, the company also unvelied some accessories which they called as Smart Extras. This included the Smart Wireless Headset Pro, Xperia SmartTags, and the SmartWatch.

Vizio Introduces VTAB 3010 at CES 2012

A year after Vizio stopped solely concentrating on TVs and joined the market for Android tablets and smartphones, they are finally ready to come out with their second tablet.

During CES this year, Vizio surprised everyone by announcing their upcoming line of laptop computers. However, this did not mean that Vizio already abandoned the tablet market. TripIt App Gets Optimized for Samsung Android Tablets Version

TripIt, a famous travel management service, took advantage of the recent CES 2012 event to launch their newest Android app for both Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Because of the extra screen size, users of the app get to have an option to view the list of all trips on either portrait or landscape mode. It also has a single itinerary overview beside the chosen view. The Straits Times App Coming Soon to Android Smartphone Users

English daily publication, The Strait Times, has made news to launch an Android app for smartphone users. Users of the app will get an Android version of the full editorial content of the publication as well as free breaking news coverage and push notifications for these. A seven-day archive is also available.

This is not the first time the publication released a digital version of their news, however. Back in August, an app for iOS devices was launched already. Just 24 hours after it was launched, it received over 126,000 downloads. It was reason enough that the app was well-received by its audience.

Oracle VS Google Trial Has No Definite Date

A Thursday ruling filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California states that there is no clear date for a trial over Oracle’s lawsuit against the alleged Java intellectual property violations committed by Google for their Android mobile OS.

“Before a trial date will be set, the issue of damages methodology must be finally sorted out,” says Judge William Alsup. “Put differently, the Court will not set a trial date until Oracle adopts a proper damages methodology, even assuming a third try is allowed (or unless Oracle waives damages beyond those already allowed to go to the jury).”
