There’s nothing more annoying than GPS that can’t find you. For users of the Samsung Captivate, the phone’s GPS has often suffered long lock times and inaccuracy in navigation. For others, it simply doesn’t work. Thanks to both mikel.canovas and h3llstorm, members of XDA Developers, there is now a way to fix that troublesome GPS. The best part is that this fix reportedly works for all Android 2.3.x Gingerbread ROMs on the Samsung Captivate.

If you’re worried that this solution will require you to exercise your command typing skills, you can relax. The GPS fix method is quick and easy. Simply follow our instructions and even the most [...]

Mira Android App: Another Siri Contender

by: Carl ParkerMarch 8, 2012

Everyone’s been buzzing about how the iPhone 4S took one giant step up from the rest by tagging Siri into the ring. If you’ve been living under a rock, Siri is the iPhone 4S’s virtual assistant. Ask her a question, just like how you would ask a friend, and she’ll give you an answer.

Imagine you’re driving and you need to keep your eyes on the road but need to send a message ASAP. Tell Siri to send a message to your spouse, without having to touch the screen. Siri isn’t just for asking questions and ordering around; she’s got a sense of humor, too. It’s no wonder why people are going nuts over the iPhone [...]

Speed Up Ice Cream Sandwich on Your Acer Iconia Tab A500 with Lightspeed ROM

by: Carl ParkerMarch 7, 2012

Users of the Acer Iconia Tab A200 and Iconia Tab A100 have been lucky to have had Ice Cream Sandwich, either by official update or through leaked firmware and custom ROMs. When it was the Acer Iconia Tab A500’s turn, the Ice Cream Sandwich leak was less than sweet. For users who tried the leaked firmware, it caused problems, and for others, it didn’t boot at all.

Naturally, the Android developer community went on a mission to make the leak functional for everyone. smaury, member of XDA Developers, has managed to hammer out a solution.

Not only did the developer make a custom ROM based on the leaked firmware but also made a few really big changes to [...]

by: Carl ParkerMarch 7, 2012

With the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich on the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, development on the tablet has been in full force. ROMs have been cropping up left and right, and lately, another ROM joined the fray. Meet the Team EOS custom ROM, based on AOSP Ice Cream Sandwich and currently in its beta stage. With nightly builds coming out, users can enjoy up-to-date improvements and fixes.

Because the Team EOS ROM is still in its beta stage, bugs and snags are to be expected, but with its nightly updates, those bugs should be on their way to being completely ironed out.

The ROM is only for the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, model number TF101 and not for any other [...]

Install HTC Sense 2.1 on Samsung Galaxy S

by: Carl ParkerMarch 7, 2012

Love it or hate it, looks like HTC Sense is hell-bent on getting on the Samsung Galaxy S. This newest attempt to port HTC Sense to the Samsung Galaxy S has been made by QuBe2, member of XDA Developers. It’s based on Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread and comes with HTC Sense 2.1. It may be a little old, especially with HTC Sense 4.0 being floated around, but as long as it gets a fully working Sense port, beggars can’t be choosers.

At the time of this writing, the port is still under development and cannot be relied on yet for daily use. Some of its known issues are Bluetooth, both front and back cameras, fastboot, and the camcorder. When pattern lock is enabled, it [...]

Upgrade LG G2X to Ice Cream Sandwich via Hellfire Sandwich Custom ROM

by: Carl ParkerMarch 2, 2012

Looks like the LG G2X is finally getting its own taste of Ice Cream Sandwich, a bonus of a little fire. We’re talking about the Hellfire Sandwich custom ROM assembled by XDA Developers member x0xhellx0x, which is currently in its alpha build.

Unfortunately, the Hellfire Sandwich custom ROM is not yet functional enough to be used daily. But, all great things are realized in baby steps, and addressing bugs and known issues is already underway. It shouldn’t take long for us to see a more stable build of the Hellfire Sandwich custom ROM soon.

According to the developer, unnecessary keyboards and live wallpapers have been removed from the ROM.  Though, it [...]

Install MIUI NMR4 on HTC Desire

by: Carl ParkerMarch 1, 2012

The HTC Desire might have been around for a while already, but development for it is still going strong. A new MIUI port has been released for this Android device, based on the CyanogenMod 9 source powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

This release, the MIUI NMR4 custom ROM, has been ported from MIUI AU v4. Unfortunately, many of MIUI AU 4’s bugs were also carried onto this port, but the developers have added a number of tweaks, additional apps, scripts and settings as well.

The developer, XDA Developers member noonamer, has also included NMR Settings, an APK developed by noonamer in Java and containing improvements such as CPU control and interface [...]

Upgrade Samsung Infuse 4G to Android 2.3.6 Firmware UCLB1

by: Carl ParkerFebruary 28, 2012

It’s raining Samsung firmware leaks and this time, even the Samsung Infuse 4G gets an upgrade. Thanks to our friends on the XDA Developers Forum, Samsung Infuse 4G users now have a new firmware based on the Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread build UCLB1. The firmware can be flashed through Odin3, but users who have never tried this before have no need to worry. The process is very fast and simple.

Unfortunately, this firmware leak is only compatible with Samsung Infuse 4G model number I997 and should not be attempted on other phone models as it may lead to bricking. You may check your device’s model number through “Settings > About [...]
