A yet-unannounced Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread update for the Sony Ericsson Xperia play has been rolling out to several users, and it comes with a really nice surprise: 720p HD video recording capability (with continuous autofocus) for the Xperia play.

Several members of XDA Forums have confirmed receiving the update for their Xperia play. One member also posted a sample video taken using the Sony Ericsson Xperia play running updated Gingerbread.

The update apparently is not yet being delivered over-the-air (OTA), although some forum members say it will eventually be pushed out as an OTA update. There was also mention of the update’s availability through PC [...]

Rogers to Release Samsung Galaxy S Glide for the Holidays

by: Alvin YbañezSeptember 23, 2011

Canadians may have to update their holiday wishlists as a new Samsung Android smartphone is heading their way via Rogers–the Samsung Galaxy S Glide., which was sent live photos of the device, was also told that the Samsung Galaxy S Glide will hit Rogers “just in time for the holidays.”

Unfortunately, no pricing information is available yet.

The Samsung Galaxy S Glide carries a name apt for its 4-row gliding QWERTY keyboard. The device is reportedly thicker than the Samsung Infuse 4G, presumably because of the sliding keyboard.

The QWERTY slider smartphone runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread on top of an unnamed 1.2-GHz [...]

New Motorola Tablet Exposed in Leak Photo, Could Have 7-inch Screen

by: Alvin YbañezSeptember 21, 2011

Motorola has a new upcoming tablet–one that is possibly smaller and thinner than the Motorola XOOM. The photo of the device shows that it possibly has a 7-inch display and is running an unknown version of Android.

A photo of the new Motorola tablet was leaked to This Is My Next (TIMN) from an unknown source.

The tablet bears the Motorola wordmark on the upper left corner if the device is held upright.  At the bottom are what appear to be interface ports, possibly microUSB and Micro HDMI.

The corners are slightly angled, which actually makes the tablet look like a bigger version of the Motorola Photon 4G.

Although the photo is blurry, TIMN [...]

by: Alvin YbañezSeptember 20, 2011

Do you want to play your favorite Nintendo Wii games right on your Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet? Sounds impossible to mere mortals like me–but not to the likes of Obiwan222222, who has made it possible to play Wii games on his ASUS Eee Pad Transformer.

The setup involves a combination of the Splashtop Remote Desktop HD app, the Dolphin emulator, and a wireless Xbox 360 controller.

According to the modder himself, he has made Wii games playable on other platforms such as the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) and the iPod Touch some months ago.  And now, his next victim is the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer with Android 3.2 Honeycomb.

It is all done with the [...]
