This story has been probably the most confusing one I have covered here at Android Authority. First Samsung said that the Galaxy S series of smartphones would not be getting ICS, then they came back and said they will re-evaluate their decision, then Samsung came back to tell us that Galaxy S users would be getting a “Value Pack” instead of Ice Cream Sandwich, whatever that means. Are you confused yet? Well we are.
The new “Value Pack” leaked out over the weekend, so let’s take a look and see what we have here. It’s Android 2.3.6, firmware XXJVU, built on December 29, 2011. As far as features go, it has [...]

This is what folks in the United Kingdom have been waiting a long time for, having Netflix available. Well the time has finally come, those of you in the UK can now watch movies and TV shows on Netflix just like us, American, have been doing for quite a while. Don’t forget the Android app is now working in the UK as well.
Reports have been drifting across the web over the last few days about PS3’s in the UK mysteriously receiving a Netflix application but that signup wasn’t yet possible. But now, you can head on over to Netflix.com right now and sign up for a one month free trial to the service which will cost just £5.99 a month thereafter to stream [...]
Good news for those of you that are fans of the 5.3″ Samsung Galaxy Note, that has been available in the UK for quite a while now. It looks as if AT&T is going to formally announce the Galaxy Note at CES this week. Most likely they will announce it during the Press day tomorrow.
But now even more questions need to be answered. Will the Galaxy Note support AT&T’s LTE network? Based on the picture above I don’t see an LTE logo. How much will AT&T and Samsung sell it for on contract? Many more questions as well, feel free to add your’s to the comments.
We have also heard that Sprint may be getting the Galaxy Note too. Could we be seeing [...]
Before this leak, the only existence we knew of the MT27i Pepper was a leaked spec sheet that was leaked not to long ago. Now we have a blurry picture of the Sony Ericsson MT27i Pepper. The MT27i is believed to be the successor to the Xperia neo V and rumours point to this handset running a 1GHz dual-core processor (most likely the ST-Ericsson NoveThor U8500 chipset) with a 3.7-inch (480 x 854 resolution) display. It is supposed to have a 5MP camera and shoot 720p video. The front of the handset has three buttons; back, home and menu buttons. The front-facing camera sits next to the LED notification light.
We aren’t to sure if we will be seeing the MT27i Pepper [...]
Ok, so we have heard about this white Galaxy Nexus in the last day or two right? Well I was looking to see how much it is to import a GSM Galaxy Nexus to the US, and found the White Galaxy Nexus for sale. Of course the GSM model is only currently available in 16GB model, so if you’re looking for 32GB you may want to wait a bit.
We all know what the Galaxy Nexus offers right? A 4.65″ Super AMOLED display with on-screen buttons featuring Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 4.0. It is a pentaband Galaxy Nexus, which do work on T-Mobile US, and on AT&T which are the only two major GSM carriers in the US. Oh and it’s updated and maintained by Google so we will [...]
Motorola’s newest tablet, although a lot of us aren’t to fond of the name Motorola has given it, has been available at Verizon for a few weeks already but now the Wifi-only version is getting ready to make its’ debut in our hands. This version of the Xyboard does not have the Verizon logo on it, which it shouldn’t anyways since Verizon isn’t providing service for these, they also do not have any type of cell radios so in theory battery should last longer. Motorola is offering the Xyboard in 10.1 and 8.2 inch models with the choice of 16GB of 32GB storage, check out the pricing below:XYBOARD 10.1 32GB: $599.99 XYBOARD 10.1 16GB: $499.99 XYBOARD 8.2 [...]
Yet another Android phone launching on Verizon, no surprise there right? Well let’s take a quick look at the new offering by LG and Verizon. The LG Spectrum is of course running Android – pretty sure its Gingberbread no confirmation on that yet – has a 1.3MP front-facing camera with a 8MP camera on the back. The Spectrum runs on a 1.5GHz Dual-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor and a 16GB SD Card pre-installed. Also features a 4.5″ True HD Display with Corning Gorilla Glass – which will be shown off at CES next week – and it has 329PPI (pixels per inch) to give a sharper image then the [...]
For those of us with the HTC Sensation, there are a lot of ICS ROM’s available for us to use and abuse now. The latest to hit XDA is SuperVillian, which is from the VillianROM team of developers. Earlier today we wrote about How to install VillianROM on your Galaxy Nexus. SuperVillian ROM is another Senseless ROM, meaning the developer has ripped almost all of Sense completely out of the skin, it is also based on the leaked ICS RUU that all these Sense 3.5 and Ice Cream Sandwich ROM’s have been built from. This is version 1.0 so I am sure there are some bugs as always with new ROM’s.
According to the developer on XDA:
Features: -Deodexed -Speed [...]
Sometime in December HTC did warn investors that there would be a big fall in their profits for Quarter 4 of 2011. Q4 2011 generated T$11.02 billion ($366m) in net earnings, which marks a significant drop from the T$14.8b ($492m) the company pulled in during the same period a year earlier.
Initially we all thought this was because of the disastrous November that HTC had, but December was just as bad. Compared with 2010, HTC saw a 20.3% drop in revenue. HTC isn’t back tracking just yet, they aren’t in the hole as deep as some companies like RIM, HTC is still a big company with a nice portfolio of competitive products in both [...]
