If you thought understanding how things work in the grand scheme of software updates was hard, here’s a piece of news that’s bound to puzzle you more than the existence of “Beliebers” -  AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro is being upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

No, seriously, it’s happening as we speak and it’s not through an unofficial custom ROM or anything. AT&T is actually pushing the official Android 4.1.1 update for the three-month old rugged 4-incher, to the uncontained excitement of tens and tens of users.

Irony aside, it’s definitely nice to see the number two carrier in the States caring about smartphones that aren’t exactly targeted at the masses, even if higher-end devices would have probably benefited more from the same software bump.

On the other hand, the specs and features that make the Rugby a mid-ranger and not a top-tier device are the 480 x 800 pix res display, 5 MP camera and 8 GB of on-board storage. Those should definitely not cripple the Jelly Bean experience at all, especially that the phone does come with a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU and 1 GB of RAM.

AT&T is rolling out the upgrade OTA (over-the-air), so anyone that’s got a Rugby Pro lying around should enable a network connection and see if there’s a prompt message encouraging the installing of a buttery smooth software package.

If there is, keep in mind that the whole thing is rather heavy (383 MB, to be more exact), but it does bring loads of improvements and tweaks, including Google Now, a new version of TouchWiz and several bug fixes. If there isn’t, be sure to manually check for the update or have a little patience. After all, it's not like you've been waiting for Jelly Bean for months, is it?
