Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge

In the kind of bargain that’s generally more associated with firework stands and t-shirt retailers, AT&T is offering you a second Samsung Galaxy S7 for free after you buy your first one. That’s one Galaxy S7 for each of your pockets.

If that sounds too good to be true… well, it’s kind of not, but there are some restrictions and asterisks to consider. The offer is available for both the S7 and the S7 Edge, but both of the phones must be purchased on AT&T next. Moreover, you have to be opening up a new line for that second phone. And, of course, the carrier isn’t just going to hand you the phone. That’s simply not how business is done among carriers. Rather, you’ll pay for the second device from your own pocket, and then AT&T will distribute $695 in bill credits to your account over the next 30 months. And the sales tax on that baby is all on you.

What are your thoughts behind AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge giveaway? Worth the deal, or are you going to pass it up? Let us know your take in the comments!

Our family of 5 has had AT&T since way back when Cingular or before (Seems like it was something else before that). We have no one else to start a new line for. I know life’s not fair but why do companies not reward their long time customers with deals??? Just switched from Dish Network to Direct TV after 10 years. Of course when you call to cancel they offer lower deals. Why didn’t you offer them before I decided to look else wear?? Yes AT&T, I am starting to look.

    • VersedNJ

I agree, but luckly I keep an extra line which I could don’t care about the number, easily just add a sixth line, and then cancel that line and still get a new device.

  • NardVa

For the free phone you have to pay $700 up front and wait for AT&T to give you your money back over 30 months. No deal.

    • VersedNJ

I think no matter which company you decide to get bogo with, you are going to encounter a similar scheme. There is no free lunch.

    • Gwe8613

You don’t pay 700$ up front. Only taxes up front.

  • watts cooler

You have to be diligent in monitoring your monthly bill for 30 months if it is really credited in your account.

  • Hel Thanatos

Yes! You essentially save no money!!! Good on you AT&T for fooling people into loaning you money :o

    • Gwe8613

It does save money, if you are switching or planning on adding a line you essentially get a 700$ phone justfor taxes.

$700 is what we pay, not At&t. They can afford to do this because they only pay about $200 for the phone in the first place. So really they are not offering you a deal…they can buy three phones with what you are paying them. In about three months they will have a temporary sale online if they don’t sell as well…or they look up and find out Best Buy is offering it with a $250 dollar gift card that you can apply to the phone which they are doing right now with Sprint.

garbage offer.Nothing more than another way of saying 30 month contract in order to realize your full benifit. Not really any worse than any other carriers so called buy one,get one “free” offer. They are all GARBAGE.

  • Christian

Lame deal how many people need to have two phones and both phones are the same?

  • Exare

This isn’t a deal at all. This is just a way for them to lock you into a 30 month contract. It’s worse than the 2-year contracts they used to use to subsidize phones because… you’re paying for the darn phone! Then they “discount” your already over-priced, ripoff level bill and say they’re giving you a free phone?

I’m very much against the government regulation of businesses and having a ruling body monitor free economy, but this is exactly the type of thing that people need to be protected from.

    • onstrike112

You have other options, and you can buy unlocked.

      • Exare

Which is what I do. I just think it’s horse puckey that ATT does things like this to scam people who don’t know any better into thinking they’re getting a free phone when really all they’re getting is a contract for 3 years of locked in, over priced cell service.

        • onstrike112

Agreed, but unlocked is the best way to buy now. They should sell the phones unlocked, and you pay them back during your time as a user of their network.

    • Gwe8613

It’s a great deal if you are switching or need a new line. You’re not paying for the phone, you pay taxes then ATT pays the bill for you every month.

      • Exare

        ATT? Is that you? ;D

Being a heavy smartphone user, LG won my vote with just the replaceable battery feature. But when LG announced the modular feature plus the aluminum case, I decided that my whole family will switch to the G5. This is so we can share all the “friends” gadgets for my family.

  • VanceVEP72

Not really a deal when you are tethered to a 30 month “contract”. And with AT&T Next, it seems as though I’ve read somewhere that it’s really a lease…not a true purchase? Can anyone knowledgeable weigh in on that?

    • SkyAttacksX

If you pay off the entire value of the phone then it’s yours to keep.

I.e. on the 30 month program it’s really after 24 months of payments you are eligible to trade in the device for something else and it’ll cover the remaining 6 months so that you can get a new phone upgrade right away . You may also just pay off the entire 30 months at which point your phone is officially yours and is no longer bound to a contract .

How cheap will the s7 probably get on amazon this friday?

  • this is no deal to existing customers, unless you are wanting a new line.

  • disqus_icGoGAdvR1

It is still a good deal the s7 cost 24 bucks a month on next 30 while a new line on the 15gb n up plan cost 15 dollars it’s cheaper to add the line then to upgrade.
