As previously rumored, Rovio has announced a new Angry Birds standalone game based on the Star Wars universe – Angry Birds Star Wars 2 – which will be launched on September 19 in available app stores.
The new game features some of the well known birds put promises to bring other characters to life, which will have new powers. The game is apparently based on the Star Wars prequel trilogy, so expect it to follow that particular script.
In addition to over 30 Star Wars characters which will be available through the game, the new title will also let you fight on the Dark side, which in this instance is appropriately called Pork Side.
This isn’t the first time Rovio will let you play with the pigs, but it’s the first time in Angry Birds that this will happen – the company offers a pigs-only game called Bad Piggies, but there’s no Angry Birds action in it.
Rovio will further monetize this particular Angry Birds title by launching 30 collectible TELEPODS toys made by Hasbro. These are figurines based on the characters in the movie/games, which can be used with your smartphone or tablet to bring them inside the game.
What you’ll have to do is scan them with the camera of your device to enable it, as shown in the teaser trailer above.
Prices details aren’t available for either Angry Birds Star Wars 2 or the TELEPODS, but such details should be unveiled later on.
