In case you have been outside all day celebrating the solar eclipse, you might have missed the fact that Google has officially launched, and named, Android 8.0 Oreo for a number of Pixel and Nexus devices. Now LastPass, one of the most popular password managers, has launched a public beta for those first Oreo users. It supports the new AutoFill APIs included as part of the OS.

As we have reported before, the AutoFill APIs included in Android 8.0 Oreo allows users to select an autofill manager to store different types of sensitive data (addresses, phone numbers, passwords, credit card numbers, etc) in whatever manager they want. LastPass already announced they planned to support the AutoFill APIs in Oreo. Today, the launch of both Oreo and the LastPass public beta will let users take some advantage of these new features.

In a blog post, LastPass states that Oreo will allow it to recognize credit card and address forms online, in addition to login and password forms, and will fill that information in automatically if it is stored away. LastPass also says that Oreo will no longer need to access Android’s accessibility features to fill in forms, which should cut down on both permissions and processor power of Android phones.

Since this is a public beta, there are some issues with this first public LastPass build. The biggest one that, for now, AutoFill APIs don’t currently work on the Chrome browser, and some apps that normally work with LastPass don’t currently support those features with Oreo. LastPass does say they are working with Google “to iron out the issues as quickly as possible”.

You can sign up to download the LastPass public beta at the link below, and you can send feedback to the company at its Google+ page. Let us know what you think of LastPass and its use of Oreo’s AutoFill features in the comments.
