Sync Outlook, Act!, Notes and more with Android via CompanionLink software

CompanionLink Software have released CompanionLink for Google Android which syncs Outlook, Goldmine, Act!, Notes, Groupwise or Palm Desktop with your Google account. After it’s in your Google account your Android device will sync automatically.

This is a godsend for those of us who aren’t already fully in the Google-sphere. Not only do you get your phone synced but you also get a backup of your life  – accessible from any web browser. While average users will be happy, we’re having trouble envisaging the enterprise sector jumping for joy just yet. How many businesses out there are going to risk having all their sensitive emails and contacts duplicated on Google’s servers?  It’s all a bit of a shame because by the look of CompanionLinks’s supported email client list, enterprise is exactly who they’re targeting.

P.S If you just need to sync your Outlook contacts and calendar (no email) with Google then take a look at KiGoo. It’s free.

I installed this and it works great (syncing Outlook w/Google). My contract with AT&T isn’t up until Feb 21 but I’m preparing myself for my G1 and this is the next step in my procurement.

The thing that stands out to me about this product is the Contacts sync. If you import your contacts into Google via a CSV file, any contacts w/o a last name appear as just a phone number. With CompanionLink it syncs them exactly as they appear in Outlook. You can also schedule how frequently to sync — as much as every 15 minutes. It also grabbed Calendar entries – including To Do’s – faithfully.

Easy to setup. No fuss. Very nice product.

Thanks for the review, folks! We’re always looking to make our software even better. Feel free to share your thoughts with us: marketing@companionlink.com

Will the companionlink allow me to sync my Outlook contacts and calendar with my LG EnV Touch phone?

  • Matt Kunz

Why don’t you make a sync software that sends infor directly from Outlook to the Android device without syncing everything through Google. I don’t like using Google Calender and Contacts. I am looking for a straight sync solution similar to HTC Sync but more robust. Why don’t you create something like that for Outlook users that don’t want to funnel through Google. It is a known fact that too much data gets deleted or messed up when syncing through Google from Outlook. Thanks.

I’d like more details on how Companionlink can transfer Outlook Notes to my Motorola Droid Android phone. Since Google doesn’t have a Notes feature, how can it transfer this info thru Google? I didn’t think Google had a To Do list either, but it must, since someone said it “faithfully” transferred his info. Thanks!

Ditto on Patty B’s comments. The Droid phone from verizon is going to likely provide a massive boost to your software sales due to lack of sync features. Can you detail for us exactly what would be sync features on this phone? Would like notes to sync with phone and other note programs like yahoo notes or google docs or outlook notes. thanks!

My Only concern is going through google with my confidential data how secure is google?

  • Steve Feder

Ditto here…am most interested in how I can save my TONS of Noes on my Windows Mobile phone (XV6800) to my new Verizon Droid. I can get them into Outlook, but there seems to be no conduit to get them into the Droid from there (as there is for Contacts and Calendar).

Can this be done? Are my Notes from Outlook transferable and usable on the Droid, using this program?

Our web filtering “police” block virtually all Google apps on city computers. So I can’t access a Google calendar. I need to sync directly my Droid with my MS Outlook 2007 calendar & contacts.

Got an app for that ?

How do I get my outlook notes from my PC transferred over to my Motorola Droid?

  • http://www.eldos.com/ Eugene Mayevski

Outlook has CSV export feature (Main menu -> File -> Import and Export, Export to a file), where you can export all notes. Then import them to Notes Everything application (pick it no the Market, it’s great, though I am using just free version and it has Pro too). The other way around is also possible, but unfortunately no automation.

Note, that import/export feature in Outlook is optional and not installed by default. You need to re-run Outlook installation and install this feature explicitly.

I am trying to get notes from outlook sent to the Vibrant. Don’t understand how to connect Notes everything to the *.csv file
Detailed steps will be desirable. Thanks.

    Hi Folks,
Just evaluating CompanionLink to sync Outlook and my lovely new Android phone but coming unstuck when trying to sync notes. I’m getting messages that Google has deleted my notes and I certainly can find no trace of them in Gmail or my Google Calendar. Does anyone know where they should be? Presumably as a consequence, they’re never getting downloaded to my phone.

I wonder if that nice person from CompanionLink might have an answer…

    Thanks.

I’m really disappointed at the lack of support for Outlook. For corporate use, syncing with Google is not a secure alternative and having to sync via a USB cable is like going back to a corded phone or old PocketPC with a docking station.
I’m currently testing the Samsung Captivate for corporate use and this is the only real deal breaker. I’ve read reviews on all of the popular sync software and they are mixed with some horror stories about lost contacts, calendar events, and e-mail.

  • Bob

I have downloaded the free trial. It seems to be working except that my detailed notes under each Outlook calendar event are not synching to gmail. The event synchs, but not the text notes I have added in the details tab. Can someone please let me know how to capture these during the synch?

    Thanks.

    Bob
