Android 4.4.4 now rolling out to HTC One M8 and M7 Google Play Edition devices
Google didn’t take its time to bring Android 4.4.4 only weeks after the 4.4.3 update. Likewise, Google Play Edition devices are starting to get the Android 4.4.4 update. Reports of the HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 Google Play Edition smartphones getting Android 4.4.4 have just started showing up.
HTC’s flagship smartphones follow multiple other devices, so they are not exactly the first to get the new Android version. Getting updates this early is always reason for celebration, though.
The new update mostly consists of security patches and the usual batch of bug fixes. Nothing major, just like the Android 4.4.3 update, which mostly had bug fixes, performance improvements and very few UI changes.
What’s in Android 4.4.4?
- 6da2c75 : CTS test for OpenSSL’s early CCS issue (CVE-2014-0224)
- e502d40 : Fix a concurrency bug in OpenSSLHeartbleedTest.
- 1856a4e : CTS test for Heartbleed vulnerability in SSLSocket.
- afae5d8 : Block access to java.lang.Object.getClass in injected Java objects
The Android 4.4.4 update for both the HTC One M8 and M7 Google Play Edition devices seems to be rolling out slowly. Some of you may be getting those notifications already. If not, you can always go to the Settings app and check for new software. Simply go to Apps > Settings > About phone > System updates > Check now.
After you are all set, let us know how the update is working out for you! We assume you won’t be noticing any changes, but having those patches is better than getting no fixes!
