According to InformationWeek, the update to Android 2.0, or 2.0.1 for at least one version of the Hero, is coming. I think a few people have predicted this. However, further speculation suggests that Verizon may be updating the Droid Eris with a ‘significant system update’ at some point during the first quater of 2010 which may go beyond people’s expectations!
Wishful thinking has lead some to believe that the ‘significant update’ might bypass Android 2.0 and 2.0.1 and jump directly to Android 2.1. Brenda Raney who represents Verizon, told InformationWeek, “The Droid Eris currently using Android 1.5, can and will be upgraded to newer a Android operating system software in first quarter 2010. The enhancement will allow customers to continue to enjoy the powerful HTC Sense experience while also gaining the additional benefits of Google Maps Navigation.” She went onto say that depending on time frames, the Droid Eris will be updated to either Android 2.0(.1) or 2.1. Good news all round !
