Amazon on Tuesday announced the launch of Amazon Prime in Canada, joining the ranks of the U.S, U.K., Germany, France, Japan, Spain, and Italy, as countries offering free shipping.
To entice you in, Amazon is offering new customers a one-month, no obligation, free trial of the service, but strangely this isn’t’ available for customers living in Quebec.
For $79 a year (that’s Canadian dollars) you’ll receive free two-day shipping on millions of different goods brought from Amazon, as well as free standard shipping if you’re living in a rural area, and one-day shipping for as little as $3.99 an item. You can order as many items as you like and will still be eligible for as much free shipping as you need, so it could save you some money over the course of the year if you’re a regular Amazon customer.
Disappointingly, Canadians won’t have access to Amazon’s Instant Video service. In the U.S, Prime Instant Video provides unlimited streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows, at no additional cost as long as you’re an Amazon Prime member. Sadly, Amazon Canada’s Steve Oliver stated that there are no plans for the video service to appear on Canada’s Amazon Prime any time soon.
