TL;DR
  • Amazon Echo Look now on sale in U.S. for $199.
  • Fashion-focused smart device had previously only been available via an invite system.
  • Will the weirdest member of the Echo family attract a wider audience?

Anyone can now buy the Amazon Echo Look in the U.S. for $199. The Alexa-powered connected camera/personal shopper had previously only been available via an invite system but is now up for grabs for any discerning fashionistas.

On top of Alexa’s usual bag of tricks, the Echo Look features a depth-sensing camera which lets users take photos and short videos of their current outfit with simple voice commands.

The bokeh-style portrait snaps and clips can then be added to your Collection within the Echo Look app so you can browse through your best get-ups at any time.

The big selling point, however, is Style Check, which helps you choose between two outfits based on your personal style, current trends, and recommendations from fashion experts with a little help from Amazon’s machine learning algorithms.

Style Check can also show you new items of clothing with handy shopping links that refer you back to, you guessed it, Amazon’s online store via the Echo Look app. You didn’t think Amazon would miss a chance to encourage you to buy things, did you?

“Like a trustworthy best friend, Alexa helps you nail your look every time,” said Linda Ranz, director of Echo product management. “With Echo Look, [Alexa] can give advice on which of two outfits looks best, offer personalized recommendations on items that pair well with clothes you already own, create your personal lookbook, keep your closet organized, and much more.”

The Echo Look is certainly the most unique device in the wider Echo family, so it’ll be interesting to see how it performs in the hotly contested smart home/speaker market.
