Over at online news website, the Earth Times, there are reports of a company called Sprint Design announcing a dual-screen Google Android-based e-book reader. Going by the name of ‘Alex’, the device offers full Internet browsing over Wi-Fi or mobile networks such as 3G, EVDO/CDMA and GSM.
The dual screen technology is called Duet Navigator™ and is patented. The use of the technology comes by way of the larger EPD (electronic paper display) linking to multimedia content in the second smaller color LCD screen. The EPD is actually 6’’ in size while the color LCD is 3.5’’. It comes with earphones and speakers along with the ability to add a removable SD card. Apparently, Android itself is optimized to support integration between the color and monochrome displays while preserving battery life.
According to the press release, “Spring Design is currently in discussion with, and enlisting major content partners and plans to release the Alex device for selected strategic partners by the end of this year.”
