Alcatel hopes to expand brand recognition with the help of Iron Man
While Alcatel might have a presence in many countries including the United States, it isn’t exactly one of the first brands to come to mind. Alcatel’s parent company, TCL, is looking to change all that through a new product placement deal that will have the One Touch Idol showing up on camera for Marvel’s upcoming Iron Man 3.
The One Touch Idol is set to appear several times in the movie and other promotional materials, though no word on whether it will just be a few unknown characters or if Tony Stark himself is will be sporting the One Touch Idol.
The deal goes way beyond just product placement, though. As the exclusive mobile partner for Iron Man 3, Alcatel will be appearing in several ways including special contests such as Alcatel’s official Facebook page giveway, where you will have a chance to win tickets to the movie’s Hollywood Premiere.
Even RadioShack is getting involved in the promotion of Iron Man 3 and the Idol, offering customers who buy a One Touch Idol a free pair of tickets to the film, with the promotion running from April 14th to May 11th.
This is certainly an aggressive push on TCL’s part, but will it make any difference? That’s hard to say, though the One Touch Idol does at least have one thing going for it: the phone weighs in at just 3.88 ounces (110g), supposedly making it the lightest smartphone in its category.
Weight aside, it isn’t exactly that exciting of a device, with only a 4.7-inch qHD IPS display, a dual-core 1GHz processor, an 1800 mAh battery, a 2MP front cam, 8MP rear cam and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. If you love colors though, you might be happy to know that this thing has nearly a whole damn rainbow’s worth: Silver, Slate, Black, Cranberry Pink, Red, Magic Blue and Mint Green.
