Acer Android Phone?

Acer Android Phone?

Back in March we attended an Acer press launch for their slew of upcoming mobile devices this year as they attempt to break into the mobile smartphone market. Back then we asked the question that was on everyone’s lips; “Will you be launching an Android device”. The resounding answer was “not yet”, but unlike some companies, they were perfectly amenable to speculating and talking about the possibility. Since then, towards the end of the same month, we reported on rumours that Acer may actually be planning an Android smartphone (code name A1) as early as September this year.

Well the rumour keeps rolling, popping up from time to time with slightly more information. According to the well known news source Bloomberg, Aymar de Lencquesaing (head of mobile-phone products) recently spoke about the possibility of an Android device in 2009 in a recent interview with the news company.

“We have not made any formal announcement of an Android- based device, although it’s likely that we’ll have one in 2009.”

This is certainly solidifying the rumours that we’ve been following first hand here at Android Authority. If When the official word breaks we’ll be one of the first to let you know.
