With Samsung, HTC, LG and even Huawei announcing and/or releasing some great high-end Android smartphones lately, we almost completely forgot about Acer. The Taiwanese don’t currently have any kind of “hero” handheld released, but fortunately things are set to change soon.
The CloudMobile is set to be Acer’s hero over the next few months and, while it won’t come with better tech specs and features than HTC’s One X or Samsung’s Galaxy S3, it might draw some attention with its quality-price ratio. Acer is looking towards the lower end of the market as well. It appears as if it will try to mesmerize some tech lovers on a budget with the soon to be released Liquid Glow.
Set to only be released in September in Europe, Acer’s CloudMobile looks like something to worth the wait. Sporting a 4.3-inch IPS touchscreen with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution and 351 ppi pixel density, the IFA Design Award winning smartphone is set to only cost €349 in France, the source of today’s “news”.
That would translate into around $435 at today’s conversion rates, but if the CloudMobile will ever set foot on American soil, we’re willing to bet it’ll go for even less than that. And if it were to come for, say, $350 or even $400, it will practically be unbeatable in terms of “bang for the buck”.
The CloudMobile will be powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor (we don’t know the model just yet, but we’re obviously keeping our fingers crossed for Snapdragon S4), and will feature 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of on-board memory, HDMI, a microSD card slot, a 1,480 mAh removable battery, an 8 MP rear-facing shooter with LED Flash and autofocus and Dolby Mobile sound enhancement.
As far as software goes, the CloudMobile will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but will also come with AcerCloud, NFC and Android Beam. Finally, in terms of design, this is clearly a winner (literally) and is set to measure less than 10 mm in thickness.
The second Acer smartphone to see the light of day in the near future will, in fact, be the first one to be released. The Liquid Glow will be powered by a single-core 1 GHz Qualcomm processor and will sport a 3.7-inch touchscreen with 480 x 800 pixels resolution.
The rest of the features are themselves decent, but not impressive and include the running of Android 4.0 ICS, a 5 MP rear-facing shooter, 512 MB of RAM, 1 GB of internal memory, a microSD card slot, NFC, GPS and USB 2.0. Set to start selling in July in France, the Liquid Glow will only go for €179 (around $225), so once again the quality-price ratio is more than decent. That being said, we're obviously hoping to see this little guy hit the US, as we're certain it could hit it big among tech users on a tighter budget.
The release timeframes and price tags for both the CloudMobile and Liquid Glow are not official, but they have been picked up by our friends over at Android France from local Acer press representatives, so chances are the details are accurate.
