5.9-inch Key Lime Pie-running HTC T6 to challenge Galaxy Note 3, report says

Key Lime Pie

A new report reveals that the rumored HTC T6 could be a Key Lime Pie-running 5.9-inch handset meant to compete directly against the upcoming Galaxy Note 3 from Samsung.

From the start we’ll remind you that this is just a rumor for now, and we have no way of confirming anything at this time, so make sure you take it with a grain of salt.

The Unlockr has apparently learned that the HTC T6 – which we saw in a different report a few days ago – is an actual HTC smartphone. The publication already has a list of specs and features for this Galaxy Note 3 contender, which reveals some interesting details.

The handset will reportedly pack a 5.9-inch touchscreen display with 1080p resolution, a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of memory upgradeable via microSD cards, an UltraPixel camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera with wide-angle lens, a 3300mAh battery and, most interestingly Android (5.0?) Key Lime Pie under the hood from launch.

That’s right, it looks like the HTC T6 – which will presumably be a HTC One of the maxi variety – will not come with Jelly Bean on board but with KLP. The handset will reportedly launch in late summer or early fall, although it’s too early to talk about availability dates at this time considering the device is not even official yet.

In addition to KLP, the HTC T6 will incorporate additional software features including a revamped Sense UI complete with a new BlinkFeed version (“more partners, more customizability and the ability to save content for offline consumption”) and a stylus:

Note-faithful, take, um, note: HTC is looking to woo you away from the original phablet by hitting Samsung’s star where it hurts — the pen. Great care is apparently being put into making the pen usage here a premium experience, so expect a nicely crafted stylus with an ultra-thin tip capable of a full suite of content creation and manipulation capabilities. It wasn’t known whether Scribe, the company’s pen suite for its short-lived lineup of (two) Android tablets, would be powering the T6 experience as well.

The HTC T6 would also pack a built-in fingerprint reader, which would be located on the back, allowing users to unlock the device as they “grip it naturally to begin usage.” Also interesting is the HTC T6’s rumored power jacket, a case that would also pack an extra 1250mAh battery.

Comparatively, the Galaxy Note 3 is rumored to arrive in July-August, and to also pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and a rear camera with OIS abilities. However, it’s too early to tell what kind of software the handset would run, not that any of these rumored specs can be confirmed either.

Speaking of software, we’ll remind you that Google will most likely release Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in the very near future. As for Key Lime Pie, we would expect it to be unveiled at some point in fall and we would expect Android 5.0 to be called KLP, although we can’t back such speculation with any facts yet.

We’ll be back with more HTC T6 news in the near future, as we expect to see more leaks as we get closer to its launch.

    2.3 ghz! holy….

    • MasterMuffin

I’m still waiting for that 3Ghz CPU that ST-Ericsson promised to give us! :)

  • MasterMuffin

Not buying this rumor! Various reports say that JB 4.3 will be next (getting announced in summer), so if this device will be announced in late summer/fall with Sense on top and KLP, I’ll… Buy it!

    • Barry J

irresponsible reporting by android Authority once again. The original source mentions late fall, so that means a November/December unveiling, that’s one year after the announcement of the HTC Droid DNA to which the Nexus 5 and XPhone may very well be ready for prime time with a brand new OS (Key Lime Pie 5.0) to kick off.

  • Kyle

16gb wtf come on!! Everything else sounds perfect but for me 16gb is a xeal breaker even if its expandable i need 32 minimum.

    • EvenInTheDarkestHour

Only bad if Android keeps the app rules in place. The other piece to watch is the camera. Ultrapixels or no, 4.3 isn’t enough data in the image. I use my phone’s camera a lot.

    • Sholih

I think it’s gonna have a microSD slot, since they’ll have plenty space in the body.

      • Kyle

You can put everything on ur sd card some things have to be stored on the phone i got a 16gb s3 with a 32 card and im out of space and this phone is a POS

  • Johan Andresen

This really pisses me of! I bought the HTC One, thinking that it was the best of the best from HTC, specially after they said that it would be the only flagship this year. So if this rumor is true, they are going to lose a costumer!

    • Klein Tamás

Tell me how shit your life is!

      • Johan Andresen

Okay, that came out wrong. I live in Denmark, and here the One costs about $900, which is pretty expensive… My point is that I just bought a really expensive phone, and HTC told me that it was going to be their only flagship this year. But now there is a new HTC flagship, or maybe there is… So now I don’t have the best HTC phone anymore, they did this last year as well, and the same thing happened to me :-) I really love the One, but I just want the best from HTC this year, not the best for 3 months. You see what I mean?

        • iamzb

This new T6 is to compete with the Note 3 not the galaxy S4 the phone you have is their flagship for the regular phone sized user this new phone is their flagship for the XL sized phones two every different audiences. You see just like Samsung they plan on having flagships for every demographic

      • Jay
    • Robbie Adams

Welcome to the world of technology… If you’re worried your device is not the latest and greatest… Don’t buy anything as the update to new phones is 6 months

  • Johan Andresen

This really pisses me of! I bought the HTC One, thinking that it was the best of the best from HTC, specially after they said that it would be the only flagship this year. So if this rumor is true, they are going to lose a costumer!

  • Gilles LeBlanc

HTC please confirm this is true. If it is I give zero sh#ts about Note 3. And the other rumors say its gonna have the HTC One aluminum body? I’m so buying this

    • If this is true, I’ll never touch a Samsung device again.

      • Aplmustdie

If it is true, HTC will screw it up. It will be available with now sd card and you won’t be able to change the battery . . . and forget os upgrades in a timely manner. My Last HTC was the EVO, Not too impressed with their chosen path.

        • Well, you have a point there. I hope, at least, expandable storage. I know HTC will learn to update their flagships properly the hard way.

  • Wesley Da’Nomad

16GB? Fukk you HTC. Want to compete? 64GB or 128 internal. (PLUS an SD card would be nice.) Swappable batteries would be awesome, too. I don’t mind if the device is half a MM thicker if I can remove the back like the Chinese can on their HTC One. While we’re at it? Stock android option for free.
    K thx bai

    • Gilles LeBlanc

Dude Its a pricing skeem thing im sure probably to bebefit us. Root your device and buy a 64gb card on amazon problem solved trust me :-)

      • Wesley Da’Nomad

I am not asking them to GIVE me a free SD card. I want the device to have an SD card SLOT…

  • 윌 스튜어트

Specs sound nice (except for battery & storage) but Sony, Nokia, Asus, Huawei & others are also working on phones to challenge the Galaxy Note 3.

    • Gilles LeBlanc

Compared to what the 16gb note 3 will have as well? Dude root ur device and buy a 64gb card on amazon trust me not even a issue.

  • brendan soliwoda

As beautiful as this sounds, I doubt there pen is going to beat Samsung’s S-Pen. But, otherwise, I might get this. I’ve been thinking of switching to another android manufacturer and I would give HTC another chance based on there recent work.

    • simpleas

Exactly why the f would you mention a pen when it’s just a cheap Chinese knockoff capacitance ones. Unless it’s real Wacom tech pen stfu htc

  • Deveal2014

Sounds amazing….sounds like my next phone .

  • cvgordo

i don’t want a phone that doesn’t have some sort of multi app functionality. if htc has developed something then this would be the phone to debut it on. otherwise i’ll stick with the note 3. hopefully samsung puts front facing speakers on it =/

    • Gilles LeBlanc

I was thinking that as well however there is a mod for rooted devices to enable dual screen. To lazy to provide refference sorry :-( Im thinking htc will add it though.

    • Mahesh Murali

venom viper x rom provide multi window on htc one x.

      • cvgordo

oh for real? that makes things interesting then. can’t wait for the announcements on both phones now.

  • freedomspopular

Finally somebody else talking about adding a pen! But non-removable battery might be a dealkiller for me. My 6200 mAH extended battery has spoiled me.

  • Funny how quick everyone stabs their Notes in the back…

    • Gilles LeBlanc

Brand loyalty would be a bad thing in the android market :-)

      • optera

in my case, it’s not brand loyalty, but “brand blacklist” :)
htc had been on my blacklist since they release one x last year.
I hope this T6 will live up to expectations.
        waiting & see..

        • simpleas

Htc has the worse support. Like 2 months at best lol. Only metal sheep’s like Htc.

    • I love the Note series, but if HTC comes out with something better, then screw Samsung

    • I dream of galaxy note3 not out of fanaticism. I think it is the best of the moment, if something better come and grab the moment then i’m in with that.

  • no rply

only if it support s-pen like thing and features

  • Kris_pacific

as for stylus digitiser technology i don’t think they (HTC) can compete with Samsung because samsung use WACOM. … best in the market ….. unless HTC goes for WACOM as well

    • simpleas

Knowing them them they probably won’t use wacom

  • Anirudh

All those males with white note 2 (embarrassed yet proud) are wishing this to come true. Finally they can have some metal.

    • simpleas

Lololol I’m sure glad I got the Grey one.

  • lollicup04

The Sony Togari and Honami will annihilate the competition. This includes the Note 3, HTC T6, and etc.
See I can take sides too ;D
All this means is that the consumers who prefer android now have more choices in this smartphone/tablet category which is always great. Now on the ios front you get to choose from a 3.5 inch screen or 4 inch screen with very similar form factors and has remained exactly the same for the past 5 years since its inception. I bet people cant wait for the iphone 5s that is exactly the same as the iphone 5 except for the boosted internal specs….

  • simpleas

Note 3 > all other android
