5.2-inch LG Nexus 5 leaks, sounds too good to be true

by: Chris SmithMarch 16, 2013

Now that the Galaxy S4 is out we’ve seen a variety of reports hinting at other smartphones that could be launched in the future, with most of them focusing on Google’s X Phone. But there’s also a new wild LG Nexus 5 rumor out there.

From an untrusted source, Android and Me has gotten a hold of a leaked picture of an LG device that’s a candidate for the Nexus 5 position. The leak for this LG Megalodon – apparently that’s its codename for now – includes specs and features as follows:

  • 5.2-inch OLED Display with 1920 × 1080 resolution
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 @ 2.3 GHz
  • 16/32/64GB of internal storage
  • 16MP rear camera by OmniVision (4k video recording @30FPS, 1080p video recording @60FPS, Real Time HDR & HDR video recording, optical image stabilization, BSI 2.0)
  • 2.1MP front camera (1080p video recording @30FPS)
  • 3300mAh Lithium Polymer battery
  • Front positioned stereo speakers
  • Qualcomm RF360 (LTE 150 Mbps & HSPA+)
  • Integrated DVB-T / ATSC-antenna
  • Gesture like controls (navigation, zoom, etc)

Naturally, we’re advising you to take everything with a large chunk of salt for now, as this Nexus 5 sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?

At the same time, this isn’t the first LG Nexus 5 rumor we’ve seen, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see LG get the Nexus 5 contract after all, no matter whether today’s leak proves real or fake.

In case we’re looking at the real deal, this LG Nexus 5 is said to arrive in October, so there’s plenty of time to find out more details about the handset.

  • ronak

Ok now shut up and take my money!!!!!
    Hope it is true.

    • MasterMuffin

Fake picture and fake specs. People here still remember the good old Nexys Prime rumors? :)

      • Fievel

Still nice to dream….. Those video recording specs alone are crazy for a phone! Haven’t noticed if anything else is comparable out there. And oh, that battery!

        • MasterMuffin

Fake → 3Gb of RAM, 2,3Ghz processor, that camera and the battery. Because this is a faked rumor, the others aren’t probably true either, but those that I listed are most certainly not true!

          • well its being released in october, so it could have the snapdragon 800 onboard, and maybeeeeee a 16mp camera, but most likely 13. would be awesome if all the specs wee true though

          • MasterMuffin

It could have 800, but the Ghz is most definitely fake

          • but i thought the 800 comes in at 2.3 ghz according to the presentation at ces by qualcomm?

          • MasterMuffin

And you’re correct, my bad >.< But still fake :)

          • lol probably fake, yeah :p

  • [email protected]

This is wishful thinking at it’s best. Give me a break

  • Michael Muyunda

man look at the picture . get out

  • Seriously…5.2-inch…why???

    • Ted1957

      Some like BIG things

      • MasterMuffin

It’s not the size, it’s how you use it ;)

    • CactusCat

My wife likes a big one.

      • MasterMuffin

        That’s why you divorced? :P

  • Yozer34

I was going for the HTC One/Galaxy S4… but now I think I’ll wait for this (if it’s true, or nearly true at least) !!!!!

    • shreyans

and keep waiting forever because such announcement will kep pouring in just go and buy htc one and be happy forever

  • I stopped reading after “untrusted source”. That was all the information I needed.

  • Faiz

Nah too good to be true.

  • somebloke

i would be a happy with a 4.3″ version similar to my s2 i hate the huge displays also wtf is it with not fitting a sdcard ??

  • Roland

    Not true.Come on…

  • Kushagra Aggarwal

    Too good to be true

  • Pete

    5.2 inch screen? Ridiculous.

    • Taurus_G4

indeed but wouldn’t that be great if more and more makers start utilizing the unused area on their products

  • Android Authority really needs to stop posting shit from “untrusted sources”, makes AA look stupid and I’ve kinda had enough of it to be honest. You really think Google has even started on the new phone when Nexus 4 has only been out a month or so? Please do you and everyone else a favor and shut the hell up.

    • They probably started working on the phones concept and design after the Nexus 4 was released. But the specs sound super unrealistic

    • Calamity Sam

Angry much? While I also believe this is not a “real” project, this is just fodder for the readers of this site and they are most likely covering all the bases just in case, also, I believe the Google nexus 4 was released 4 months ago

    • fresh_TD

Really?? do your research.. The nexus 4 got released on 13 NOV 12.. do the math son.. thats 4 months ago not one…

    • Mahesh

Dude WTF, where were u all this time, did u jus wake up from a Coma O.o

    • While I’ll agree on the rumor mongering, the Nexus 4 has been out for 5 months.

Release cycles take quite a long time 12+ months. Google is working on the next Nexus phone. It’s just good normal business.

  • bajie_二

    Nexus 5 beats galaxy s4

    • adi132

  • Jusephe

Finaly something ! With big phones come big possibilities.

Finally someone decided to make a huge battery instead of making things thinner (I think it will be pretty thick given that 3300mAh under just 5,2 inch screen). No one cares about that millimeter or two if it can make battery bigger by 50-70 %.

  • Joshua Percell

I’m happy with my N4 for now, though maybe if this is real, I may consider an upgrade.

    • Ivan Myring

      I know. Same here.
It probably will just be 5inches, but I think that all of the other specs could happen except the TV antennae

  • sakthi ganesh

well its nice if it comes equal to the s4 and htc 1 price

  • Never liked the Nexus line because it never pushed the bounds and/or set the standard for all other smartphones, except the N1. Lately has been playing catch up too instead of innovating and adding software features

Got the GN2 now so no need to get the S4 or One. Not liking to get the tablet that will be the GN3 at 6.3″. Therefore, if this is true, the timing will be right for me at the end of the year so id be aaaalll in on this one !!

  • Neilr

Ahh if only someone made a phone like this…

  • Noah

Ridiculously too big, I don’t see the point.

  • crash613

    no sd card; no purchase

  • Please nooo…. Google , Don’t try LG again :(

  • rdeleonp

    Please be real… WANT!

  • Ivan Myring

Fake, but I wish it was like this.
    Ohhhh… New pants time.

  • looks like a PSP hehe

  • those are the dreams of a power user not the reality

  • I wanna one very soon. =D

  • Sure it’s true! So are unicorns! And the Loch Ness Monster!
    Make.Believe :D :D :D

    • I thought “Make Believe” was something from the Sony ads :P

  • Anthony Wislon

Too good to be true….. but one can hope

  • wow wow wow!!!!!!!…
    itz jst amazingly brilliant…
itz gona be awsm smartphone ever

  • Jwhap

Though I doubt these rumors… If they need someone to test the phone I am in! That is a sexy render! I saw this and thought a screw the xphone! But alas….

  • Chris Parkinson

Sounds good! But I’ll take all that into account with a massive pinch of salt. Think about it, the screen will be about the same as the Galaxy S4, the on screen buttons will take about 0.1″ / 0.2″ of an inch off as always so then we’re left with a good 5.0″ display. What ever Google brings out as their next Nexus device, its going to be amazing! I just hope that HTC doesn’t make it! Anyone but them.

    • Ivan Myring

Sounds about right. I think that most of the specs could be accurate but not the screen size (unless they make it longer so the buttons are accommodated with a 17:9 ratio)
Either way it will be great, and I sort of agree about HTC as their phones are alright but are really playing catch up to some others (Samsung)

  • Rick

this is fake shit . LG is cheap piece of crap!
LG can’t afford to have such good specs .

    • Check out the Nexus 4 and then speak.

      • The nexus 4 is a hell of a device but I don’t see LG making profit (or maybe marginal profit) considering that it has high end specs and low price. 299 for those specs, I can’t believe they are making any profit. Also, Google must also take a good stake of the marginal profit they make. Seeing the high end specs of the nexus 4, it would be very expensive to manufacturer it and then there is the low price, I think that LG has done a good job. The low price of Nexus 4 acts as the cherry on the cake. Sadly, I think that with a 16 MP cam, Snapdragon 800, 1080p, 3 GB ram, this phone is gonna cost too much in manufacturing. The 8 GB model (if any), I believe, will cost atleast 349 with those specs. Or else maybe LG and Google decide to sell it at the manufacturing cost. I believe that could happen if only Google had manufactured the phone (since they want people to jump the ship from ios and this is gonna be a good move) but if it is manufactured in collaboration with LG, I don’t believe that it willhappen. As much as I want the Nexus 5 to have a low price, with those specs, I believe it won’t happen.

        • thats true, but the cost in technology is always going down. like my friend got the nexus s for 300 bucks a couple years ago, and the specs are laughable today. look at the nexus 4, high end specs for the same price basically, so the nexus 5 with those specs could possibly be around the same price as the nexus 4 today

          • Yeah that is true but those specs are better than the most high end phone like the Galaxy S4, HTC one, Xperia Z..so I dont expect it to at a low end price. Either they are gonna remove/reduce some features or they are gonna put at a good (expensive) price.

          • true, but specs in the nexus 4 are better than the s3 and note 2 and most other high end phones but it still costs half as much, so it might do the same in the nexus 5 probably

          • Ivan Myring

And the nexus 4 was based on the highest specced phone at the time. By the end of the year all these components will be available and in phones. Its gonna happen

  • And to make it completely perfect: 399$ for 16GB Internation Unlocked :D

  • nothing thats BIGGER is too good to be true…

  • rvichar

That would be one tasty chunk of salt. Galaxy S what?

  • Roberto Tomás

is there any reason to believe this given that the snapdragon 800 has integrated LTE already, and both the snapdragon 800 and the LTE controller are provided by qualcomm?

    • Ivan Myring

They still need the modem and how is 3gb ram low for a 16MP camera?
Most phones with cameras of that level have 1 or 2 and work fine

      • Roberto Tomás

They don’t need the modem. It is integratd in the Snapdragon 600, this is what I was saying. :) 3GB isn’t low for the still frame camera, 3GB is arguably low for the full-speed 4k video, which if it only buffers 1 second while recording still needs 1 GB of ram just for that buffer.

        • Ivan Myring

Well it may just be that they are stating the modem that it comes with. Either way its only a dubious leak.
See what you mean about the camera now

  • Aziz Farhi

I don’t think such a phone is coming out any time soon.. The specs are not only too good to be true, they’re far from being all put into one device. However dreaming about such a monster is good :)..
Hope we will see such devices in the future.

  • choppingspree

LOL 4K video recording, yeah right

    • Ivan Myring

      What is wrong with that?
It was one of qualcomms main aims.

  • dogulas

Has it ever occurred to anyone that perhaps part of the reason nearly half of Android users are still on Gingerbread is that they are reluctant to get one of the many huge phones that seem to be the only Android option anymore? One nice android phone under 4.3 inches would be nice.

  • Alu Zeros

I would crap a brick if this was true, more than 16 GB option makes me wonder if its just an lg phone

  • Jack Meslow

Wow google is pulling an iphone

    • Ivan Myring

These are great specs and as big an upgrade as would be possible

  • the design looks bad

  • Steve Anthony Herrera

There is so much that is hard to believe in these spec, bit the one that should without a doubt tell you this is fake “4k video recording @30FPS”… Really?!?!! C’mon people if anyone believed that, then I have a bridge to sell you.

  • Gebs

Indeed is too good to be true. Even though its nothing impossible, but they gotta milk the public first

  • seeingwhite

    No way. Fake.

  • Magnetic1

No Leica lense and Sigma image sensor.

  • Mike Reid

    >Integrated DVB-T / ATSC-antenna

And tuner chip presumably ? Good luck with that.

N4 and Optimus G were supposed to have simple FM. And didn’t.

  • cycad007

Made by LG? Won’t buy it here.

  • add t-mobile wifi calling feature and i’m in. Otherwise its a bust as I can’t use it at my house that gets s**t reception (we are in a deep hole)

  • I surely hope this isn’t a Verizon exclusive like the Razr phones and the Droid DNA. Otherwise I’ll probably go with the S4.

    • Joshua Percell

Considering Verizon’s track record with Google, and the reason Google choose to make the Nexus 4 a GSM phone, I highly doubt you will have to worry about it going to Verizon.

  • Garry DeWitt

Haha, oh man this would destroy the S4 in sales, especially if they managed to price it at the $350 the N4 came out with. Contract or not people would see the value I think.

  • Eric

I’m waiting for something that will blow me away.
It would be nice if Samsung, LG, Motorola, etc. put their latest Tech in their phones and not wait 2+ years just so they can slowly update their products, that isn’t innovation that’s stalling. Although I love Android and really Love Samsung it’s just really frustrating that the latest Tech wont be out for 1+ years like with YOUM and by that time it will be outdated by another innovation they made 1+ years ago from now.

    • Joshua Percell

Unfortunately there is lots of money to be made by “pacing” their product releases. That’s why you don’t see the latest tech out when it is actually invented. That and it does take a little bit of time to put said tech into production.

  • Everybody this is obviously fake yes I do agree with most of you here saying it’d beat the crap out of xyz but what gives it away are a couple of things. First you can’t have 4k video recording of the damn device has only 16, 32, or 64 GB which you probably can but would possibly give you seconds or short minutes of recording then your device would be full. Yes its only been months out since nexus 4 release but they are already coming out with a new phone this may I believe and Kandy Kane. So who knows what to believe. Just please understand that it may be lg again distributing a new phone for the nexus line and this may be it (I say that with a ton of doubt) but cut the 4k video recording crap because the idiot who made that up was talking out of his ass. Its not possible yet people … Go do some homework and study up on 4k technology. Besides to me it’d be stupid as hell to even think about putting that on a phone as our eyes can’t even detect a pixel at 450 PPI without using any kind of magnifying whatsoever we’re talking from the naked eye here. Goodbye.

  • satsmine2k4

16/32/64GB of internal storage Nexus = not happening mate…

  • vampiremini

i’ll rest in peace if i’m holding that in hand right now.
